Picture: Anders Banger/ Thomas Waldenström (2.nd), Fredrik Menck/Kim Göransson (winner) och Jürgen Sperl/Ingemar Thelander (3.rd) got their nice prices after a big fiht in Ostsee Rallye in Oldenburg, Germany. Nine Volvo Original teams started in Ostsee Rallye in Oldenburg, Germany Sept. 11. It was six swedish, two german and one austrian team. Overall 70 rally cars came to drive 15 SS and 130 kms during one day. (The plan said 13 stages but there was a problem driving thrue a smal village, som the organisators had to do two do a stop before and a nex start after the village. A nice solution!) - It really was a nice rally. Swedish drivers dont understand what they are missing when they decide not to test asphalt rallies abroad, one of the swedish drivers - Anders Banger - said after the rally (his first on asphalt abroad...) -Its exotic for us - as it is for german drivers coming to Sweden for driving on gravel. But the best of all was the spectators and the price giving. - It felt really big! The swedish drivers - 3 of them top graded drivers in Sweden - had a really nice fight in the Volvo Original Class. It was Fredrik Menck, Ingemar Thelander and Anders Banger - and all three of them was in the lead during the day. First Fredrik Menck, than Ingemar Telander - who likes tarmac because he is a racing driver and a hill climbing driver (in a rear wheel driven Volvo S40 Rally Cross Car). After hat Anders Banger took over the lead - almost to the end. But Fredrik Menck had got a wrong time on one of the stages - and won before Anders Banger and Ingemar Thelander! Big surprise wast that young driver Jacob Jansson from Sweden - just 18 years - was almost as quick as the top drivers. He was 4.th in the class - only 60 secs after winner Fredrik Meck after 130 kms on the nice german roads. Two drivers had to retire: former Nordic West Euro Cup-winner Erik Vrena Johansson who left his new Mitsubishi at home this weekend. But Eric went off and had to give up. Also Kristoffer Karlsson had to give up after a big jump that "killed" both the gearbox and the rear axle when landing. Behind this drivers german drivers Siggi Mayr and Stefan Haberland had a nice internal fight and after them austrian veteran Karl Rumpler - who as usual come to the rally driving in his Volvo 740 Original car. By the way: All treee using jst common standard engines in their cars - the swedish driver has done all they are allowed to do and has some more horsepowers to use. Fredrik Menck came to finish line as nr 25 among all 47 cars who reached finis. He also was number 6 in Div 2 - behind four BMW M3:or and one Porsche 911 Carrera...
