SIGGI MAYR LEADS "THE NORDIC WEST"

German 740-driver Siegfried Siggi Mayr leads the Volvo Original Nordic West Euro Cup after Rallye Sulingen and Bonus Rally SSR in Sweden.

Siggi Mayr has been rallying for many years.
He started back in 1985 in a Saab 99 and 1992 he begun to start in World Championsip Rallies with cars like Opel Kadett, Opel Astra and Suzuki.
Nowdays - since 2005 - he drives Volvo Original with an old 740.
- Its just a standard engine and we drive just for fun. F ex we always starts on used tyres, Siggi says.
Well - used tyres and a standard engine is enough to put Siggi to the top in the Nordic West Euro Cup 2010 so far.
Siggi and codriver Hubert Spindler loved the SSR-roads in the Ljungby district and got to the finish line as nr 4 of the 6 foreign teams who started in the Volvo-part of the SSR this year.

Fastest driver among them was Robert Nordin from The Åland Island, an autonomus part of Finland between Finland and Sweden.
Robert who drives a 940 had a splendid rally and ended 7.th of 52 (!) Volvo Original Cars in this well known swedish Rally.
Second car was young dansih 240 driver Mick Fraas who started in his first big rally on gravel (back home in Denmark they normally use asphalt roads for rallying).
Anyhow - Mick was really quich on gravel too and ended 2.nd in his classe (C-drivers) and as car nr 15 overall among all Volvos - very good!
Veteran Jochen Walther - now back in his old 240 was nr 3 among the foreign drivers. Jochen was 27.th overall. Siggi was only 62 seconds after Jochen and ended as Volvo nr 32 after 43 minutes on the very fast gravel roads with a lot of stones in the ditches.
Two young drivers from The Netherlands also started in SSR 2010 - John Bosscha and Rinse Zwaagstra. But both had to retire - Rinse went of at the 3.rd stage and John had to give up between the 3.rd and 4.th stage (problems with the rear axle).

HENRIK LEVIN FASTEST IN SULINGEN

The Nordic West Euro Cup this year started with german asphalt Rally Sulingen May 1.
This year it was really a good number of Original Volvos in the entry list - eleven teams from four countries:; Germany, Sweden, Austria and The Netherlands
Swedish Henrik Levin won the Nordic Cup last year - and want to win it this year too.
Henrik lowes the Sulingen Rallye wand has won the Volvo Original classe there twice. So no one was surprised that he won again.
- I pressed very hard from the beginning and that was good, because when the rain started at ss 9 I could slow down a little bit and still have the others behind me.

Sulingen this year had 13 stages/150 kms and and behind Henrik three drivers had a fight: Dutch driver Michel Kolen in a 740, german veteran Andreas Leue - also in a 740 - and young swedish 940 driver Kristoffer Karlsson.
Kristoffer started really fast but at the 9.th stage he went off:
- The car was ok but we could not get it back to the road again so we had to retire.
At that time Kristoffer was the 3.rd car, just some seconds after Kolen.
The slippry roads became a problems for a lot of the drivers.
Austrian veteran Karl Rumpler also went off at the same stage as Kristoffer and after that german Anja Frese, dutch Rinse Zwaagstra (both on SS 11) and german Henk Bosscha (at the last stage when the battery gave up...)
