Picture: Sigi Mayr drivs on snow in Vännäs, a small village in the north of Sweden Jan 23-24. Its not Siggis first winter-visit in Sweden with his 740. Some years ago he f. ex. started in Östersund, also at snow and ice. Its lot of foregn drivers testing snow rally in Sweden with Volvo Original cars at the moment. In jan. 23-24 Jochen Walther, Siggi Mayr and Philip Knoof from Germay and austrian driver Karl Rumpler starts in Vännäs, where the swedish Volvo Original Cup 2010 starts with two winter rallies - one on saturday and one on sunday -where the drivers are allowed to use maximum 6 tyres for the whole weekend. In the Vännäs-rallies there also is a driver from Åland - the small "Island Country" between Sweden and Finland. Its Robert Nordin, a 940- driver who only drives in Åland and in Sweden. Next weekend - in Z-Trofén - Andrei Chernov testing a 240 Original. Andrei is driving on italian license and has his home in Milano. And one week ago italian World Champion-driver Fabio Frisiero started in small "Monitor Rally" in a 740 Original. Fabio started quite nice first time in a "one wheel driven" standard Volvo - but stopped in a ditch at the 3.rd stage.. The work with the Nordic West Euro Cup 2010: Is hard to find rallies fitting the national Volvo Cup calendars, so now we are planning to test some new ideas: Its to make a Cup as usual - and then "upgrade" some rallies in each "Volvo Country" where You can start and pick extra points for the Cup! The background is that we think its most important to go abroad and have fun together with Volvo drivers from other countries - not only to fight in a Cup to win. The idea is that a start in the extra rallies" shall give 15 points - if you come to finish. And 7 points in you start but dont reach finish... Maximum extra points can be from 3 rallies each driver. And - its just foreign drivers who gets points in the extra rallies. So no swedish driver will have extra points in Vännäs this weekend. Because of cause we start with Vännäs - but inly for the first rally, Vännäs Plåtrally at saturday. Next extra rallye in Sweden will be South Swedish Rally in Ljungby and 3.rd Snapphanerallyt in Hässleholm. More info later on. There will be a Euro cup meeting in Vänäs where Carleric Johansson, Sweden, Jochen Walther, Germany and Carl Rumpler, Austria will meet.
