Picture: Siegfried Mayr drove fast in Lausitz Rallye 2008 and ended at 4.th place in the Volvo Classe. The final rally in the Volvo Original Nordic West Euro Cup 2008 became very dramatic. Young swedish driver Emil Tigerberg, 22 - who was the winner of the Cup this year even before the start in Lausitz Rallye - crasched on the first stage second day. Just 300 meters before finish on the stage the car jumped, landed on a wrong way - and rolled over. The crasch happend at top speed - round 160-170 km/h - and Emil hurt his back and was transported to hospital in Weisswasser. Emil was kept at the hospital for some days but now he is back in Sweden again. He will be completly all right in some weeks. Emils codriver Martin Andersson tells that the car rolled 4 laps before it stopped. Martin was alright after the crash. Emil was happy he invested in a Hans helmet system last year. 13 Volvos started in the 2.nd, national part of the Lausitz Rallye 2008 and fastest on the stage friday (Reichwalde 21,53 km) was Henrik Levin in a 940. 2.nd was Emil Tigerberg - ony 8 seconds slower. German driver Jochen Walther in a 740 was quick at stage too. Jochen who had Holger Knöbels codriver Steffi Fritzenmeier in the codriver chair. Day 2 Henrik Levin went on in same high speed as on first stage an won the Volvo-classe, 1,5 minutes before Niklas Lundberg. The 2007 Volvo European Champion - Eric Vrena Johansson - nowdays drives a Renault Ragnotti. But young Eric wanted to start in Lausitz in a Volvo and came to Boxberg in a new built 940. But he had some problems from start and after that had a big fight to beat both german driver Siegfried Mayr in a 740 and young dutch driver Cor Yntema in a 940. Jochen Walther had problems with the car (electric telated fuel problems) during 3 stages and ended at 12.the place. Jochen also stopped when he saw Emils car: - Jochen was fantastic - he did everything right and I am very greatful that he helped me, Emil says. Emil also thanks Heike Vogt and Wolfgang Raspar and the doctors and nurses at the hospital in Weisswasser for all help. 2,d in the Euro Cup was Cor Yntema. The yung dutch driver is very fast on asphalt but also has learnd to drive on gravel. The start i lausitz was his 2.d on gravel - and he ended at the 5.th place after great driving.
