Swedish Volvo 940-drivers Emil Tigerberg - leading the Nordic West Euro Cup this year - and Eric Vrena Johansson - who won the Cup last year - started really nice in great german Rally Sulingen in May this year. After 5 of the 16 special stages Eric Vrena was in the leed - only one second before Emil! The two drivers had exactly the the same ss-times on two of the stages and they also spun on one stage - in the same corner. But - on ss 6 it happend. Emil lost his 3.rd gear in the gearbox. And Eric could get 45 secons on him, before they reached Service Area in Sulingen after 8 stages. At the service place Emil got help from ex-Volvo Original diver Holger Knöbel and his team to change gearbox. (Holger tested his new Ford Escort RS 2000 for the first time but had to give up after 3 stages.) After SS 8 Eric Vrena went on in the same speed - but at ss 9 the rally was over for the sweed who made his last rally in the 940. Next rally he will drive a ned Renault Clio Ragnotti Gr N. What was happening was that the sweede lost grip with his rear wheels in a corner and went backbards in a big ditch. It was to deep, so even if the car was ok he had to give up. During the time dutch 240 driver John Bosscha made a great rally. He was fast - and made no mistake. So even if Emil really went fast on the last stages he had no chans to reach John, who won the Volvo cup in The Netherlands last Year and really has developed nice, as a very fast Volvo Original driver. Congratulations to a great win, John! Emil Tigerberg ended at 2.nd place, 46 secs behind John. Emil now leeds the Cup this year before german Jochen Walther, who did not start in Sulingen. Both will start in next leg - swedish gravel rally Kullingstrofen in Herrljunga in the end of July. On 3.rd place in Sulingen, dutch 740-driver - so it was 240,940 and 740 who took the first places. The dutch drivers had a nice rally in Sulingen Michel Kolen in a was 4.th and Andreas Leue in a 740 was the best german driver, only 0,8 sec (!) before his friend Jürg Steffensmeier. Dutch 740-driver Sander Pelle and 240 drivers Ruurd Ochse got problems in one stage at the military area and lost a lot of minutes each. Pity because specially Pelle had really nice speed on the stages.
